LA GATOR tiers by household income and disability rather than by where a child is schooled, so a homeschool family is not penalised: $5,243 for most eligible students, $7,626 at or below 250% of the federal poverty level, and up to $15,253 for a student with a disability. Phase 2 for 2026–27 extends eligibility up to 400% FPL.
The thing to plan around is the calendar. Louisiana does not accept applications year-round — the window is roughly two weeks in March, and missing it means waiting a year regardless of eligibility. Families must also be registered as a home study program with the state before using funds.
What Louisiana families should know
The application window is short
For 2026–27 the window opened 1 March at 9am CT and closed 16 March at 11:59pm CT. Louisiana is not a rolling programme — mark the date, because there is no second window.
Register as a home study program first
Using GATOR funds for homeschooling requires state home-study registration. It is a prerequisite rather than a formality, and it trips families who apply in the right order but register in the wrong one.
Reimbursement is not available
Louisiana states it plainly: GATOR funds shall not be used to reimburse families for payments they have already made. The marketplace is the only route, so please do not buy by card expecting to claim it back.

How do I buy this with my GATOR award?
Through the Odyssey marketplace — log in to your Odyssey account and search for JyoLing. Louisiana prohibits reimbursing families for purchases made outside it, so a card purchase cannot be claimed back. The free layer costs nothing if you would rather try it first.
I missed the March window. What now?
